The Power of the Hashtag, from #Metoo to #TimesUp

The power of social media has made a huge impact throughout Hollywood and in many industries, bringing forward the question of gender equality in the workplace and in society. I have personally seen friends use it on Facebook and Twitter to address issues they come across in everyday life, and celebrities promote the hashtags as well.

  Why does is appeal to the LGBT+ community? Tumblr provides a "safe place" for those who may fear social rejection. It fosters a place in which varying levels of anonymity allows people to explore parts of themselves that they could otherwise internalize.
